Abstract: The construction of a self-propelled carriage designed to overcome some limitations of the "AlI-terrain" carriages is analysed
The main features of the carriage are the propelling device and the control system. The first one is made by four couples of pulleys powered by hydraulic motors; the adherence of the pulleys on the mainline is due to the rubber material lining the race. The electronic control system, based on a radio-controlled computer mounted on the carriage, allows to handle all the operations of the carriage, both in normaI operational conditions and in emergency ones.
The first field tests carried out with the carriage show:
- the good operation of ali the components (mechanical, hydraulic, electronic) of the carriage;
- the operational safety allowed by the electronic controI of the functions of the carriage;
- the satisfying performances of the carriage, tested under the specific conditions of the trials.
The results show that the self-propelled carriage will be able to improve the operational conditions in the field of cable transportation systems.
